Assam Rifles rescue people during flood in Assam


Following SOS call from civil administration, Srikona Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarter 21 Sector Assam Rifles and IGAR (East) launched flood rescue operations in general area of Balichara and Borkhola in Cachar district of Assam. Swift and coordinated actions were carried out to rescue precious lives caught in the areas inundated by River Jatinga with priority given to women, the elderly, infirm amd young children. The timely and swift action resulted in lives being saved and a major disaster being averted for the time being. Rescue efforts are going on with the locals appreciating the yeoman service rendered by Assam Rifles. Around 47-49 civilian lives were saved which included 23 children, 15 women and 14 elder persons, Assam Rifles said
