Imagi Meira urges CM N Biren for decisive action, demands abrogation of SoO agreement

IMPHAL:
Imagi Meira stands resolutely, demanding unequivocal transparency from the Government of Manipur concerning the decisions forged during the Privilege and Ethics Committee meeting on February 13, 2023. Okram Joy’s persistent reiteration of their complaint statement during the session has propelled Imagi Meira Convenor, Thokchom Sujata, to amplify the call for the public dissemination of these crucial decisions.

Addressing a press conference from their headquarters, Sujata underscored the imperative for the legislative body to confront the issue decisively in the impending Assembly session. Imagi Meira’s critique extended to Manipur’s Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, who also holds the position of the leader of the house. She emphasized the urgency for Singh to exhibit decisive leadership by taking a firm stance on the matter.

With fervor, she implored lawmakers to champion the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants, citing a plethora of compelling evidence circulating widely on social media platforms. Emphasizing the pressing urgency of the matter, Sujata asserted, “The legislature must adopt a resolute stance to annul the suspension of operations.”

In a scathing critique of the government’s response to recent security challenges, Sujata lambasted the authorities for their lackluster handling of the situation. Sujata’s remarks during the press conference underscore a profound sense of disappointment and frustration with the government’s actions.

She vehemently denounced the government’s decision to resort to combing operations in valley areas following attacks by Kuki militants on Meitei-dominated regions. By deploying Central Paramilitary Forces, the government’s response appears reactionary and fails to address the root causes of the conflict.

Sujata’s indictment of the government extends beyond its tactical response to include its failure to adequately protect its citizens. She pointedly criticized the government for forcing ordinary civilians, such as village defense volunteers, to take up arms in defense of their communities. This indictment lays bare the government’s inability to fulfill its primary duty of ensuring the safety and security of its populace.

Imagi Meira has persistently and vociferously demanded the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations with Kuki Militants, expressing sharp disapproval of the government’s security measures. Critically, the group has underscored the government’s failure to effectively address the prolonged violence spanning over nine months in the state, urging immediate action to restore peace.
