Senapati Police and Forest Department inspected Ngatan Village poppy cultivation

A team of Senapati PS led by SI Ngaopuni Lanah and a team of Forest Dept went to Ngatan village and conducted the second poppy survey. After travelling for 3 hours by gypsy from DHQ, the team reached Ngatan village and had a short interaction with the village elders regarding poppy cultivation in the village land. The village authorities gave their assurance to cooperate with government's ‘War on Drugs’ and submitted a copy of their general body meeting resolution not to cultivate poppy hereafter.

It may also be noted that 100 acres of poppy was destroyed last year in this area. The police team together with village authorities walked on foot for 2 hours from Ngatan village to reach the previous poppy fields. Field survey for poppy fields was done with the help of drone. Few places appeared to be in the midst preparation for cultivation of poppy. However, the villagers clarified that those lands are being prepared for growing vegetables like cabbages, potatoes, millets, etc.
