A team of Civil Society Coalition for Human Rights in India and the United
Nations (CHRHR) has conducted a solidarity visit to the aggrieved family of
Arambam Nanao yesterday and carried out a fact finding on his death. CRHR in a statement said it has presented the
facts for necessary action to the chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission
(MHRC) Deceased Nanao is survived by his wife Arambam ongbi Meisnam Teresa, 29
and three minor sons. It has also urged the Manipur Human Rights
Commission to intervene in the alleged
custodial torture and death of Arambam Nanao, 37 on May 2 last. CSCHR has also
requested the Commission to kindly monitor the
investigation to ensure that all the guidelines issued by the National
Human Rights Commission pertaining to custodial death is followed in letter and
spirit and to ensure that the erring police personnel is punished according the
law of the land, and to ensure the dreaded phenomena of extrajudicial killings
do not reoccur in Manipur.
