Locals warn of closing St Joseph School from Jan 14


IMPHAL: The Nupi Weavers’ Welfare Association cum Meira Paibi, Sagolband Tera Lukram Leirak has claimed that untimely transfer of principal of St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sangaiprou will be a factor in degrading the standard of the school.
Briefing media at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of the association Keithellakpam (O) Thounaojam Margaret warned that the locals will lock the school on January 14, stop the admission process of class one to seven.
She also warned that they will prohibit the new principal from entering the school, prohibit parking of school vans in the locality and to stage a sit in protest unless the Bishop house revoke its order of transferring the principal, father Victor.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the Bishop house for transferring Victor, she said that under the tenure of the said principal father Victor, the school managed to secure 6th position in the 2019 Board of Secondary Education Manipur examination 2019 though the performance of the school was not up to the mark for the past few years.
She also informed that 248 students also secured 1st division out of 250 students in the examination while adding that the infrastructures of the schools were also develop. Girls’ hostel was also constructed, smart class rooms were introduced and school also performed well in higher secondary examination.
With the replacement of reservation system by lottery system in the catholic educational institutions in the state, the number of seats for admission at St Joseph also increases in 2019. Such lottery system also gives a right to education to the public said Margaret.
The lottery system not only gives right to the people but also reduce the pressure experience by the head of the institutions at the time of admission, she added. Margaret also alleged that one of the priest also used communal words when the locals went to Bishop house to plead for cancelation of the father Victor’s transfer order.
She said that the priest also informed that a local father from Mao will replace father Victor and he will be performing well in his job. While questioning the reasons for transferring Victor, the priest could not give a reply, she added.
