‘Veewon should be released unconditionally’

IMPHAL: Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) strongly condemned the slapping of sedition charges to Manipur Students Union, Delhi, former president, Veewon Thokchom.
A release from MUSU stated that the organisation is deeply concerned with the incident and strongly condemns the arrest of Veewon on charges of seduction from his rented house without issuing any arrest warrant. “This act of police was very inhuman and condemnable as they physically assaulted him in front of his siblings,” it said. Veewon was arrested for his post on social media against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 and criticising the present BJP led government of the state, it further said. “But the statement posted on social media seems to be an outburst of invectives,” it added.
MUSU will not remained silent if the government does not immediately stop arresting of the individuals who were protesting against the Bill it further stated adding Veewon should be released unconditionally.
