Shirui fest kicks off at Shirui village with much fanfare

The 4-day long Shirui Festival 2022 has kickstarted with much fanfare at Ukhrul district's Sirui village on Wednesday. Manipur Governor La Ganesan and chief minister N Biren Singh attended the opening function. Addresing the function Governor La Ganesan stated that his native state Tamil Nadu and Manipur have some similar features like celebartion of flower festivals. The Sirui Lily festival will help promote tourism in Manipur, he stated. CM Biren on the occasion said the state governmentv has got approval from the Centre for cable car service for Thanga-Karang and Mahadeva in Ukhrul. He added that his government was considering to take up development work on Kangkhui Cave in Ukhrul, apart from funding Nungbi Factory under the Start-Up policy. The Shirui festival is held around April and May as it is the blooming season of Shirui Lily. The flower is found in Ukhrul district of Manipur only and cannot be replanted anywhere in the world. This year, some international rock bands will perform at the festival.
