MCM Demand partial opening of Indo Mayanmar trade

MOREH: Stating that the prolonged closure of Indo-Myanmar border has severely impacted the people of Moreh, Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has appealed to the State Government to consider reopening the border for a few hours daily.

Speaking to media persons, MCM president, M Thoiba said that though cross border movements are being restricted as a preventive measure against the COVID pandemic, Myanmar goods are still available in Moreh town, only at much higher prices.

Such a spike in rates of goods affect all, but the poor and impoverished families are suffering the most, he added.
Saying that Assam Rifles and the State police have been seizing smuggled items from Myanmar and drugs frequently amid the continuing lockdown, M Thoiba asked if drug manufacturing factories are already opened in Moreh.
He then appealed to the State Government and department concerned to find out the source of those seized drugs to control drug-related problems in the State.
