Union Cabinet likely to clear Clear Citizenship Amendment Bill in crucial meeting today


NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi government is likely to clear the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 during a meeting of the Union Cabinet, which is scheduled to begin around 9.30 am on Wednesday. According to reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been holding hectic parleys with his Cabinet colleagues, top political leaders and activists from the Northeastern states, including the chief minister of Mizoram, over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

During one such meeting, which was called on Tuesday and concluded in the wee hour of Wednesday, a consensus has reportedly evolved on the bill and the same may be cleared by the Union Cabinet, which is due to meet shortly.
