MH370: MAS delegation arrives in China to update families

Chumthang News Service,
IMPHAL/2015: A delegation from Malaysia Airlines (MAS) headquarters arrived here to brief the next of kin over the confirmation by MH370 investigators with regard to the flaperon found.Dozens of media personnel from foreign and local organisations waited since 9am yesterday at the ground floor of the building where the Beijing MAS office is located.
They were later joined by about a dozen family members of the passengers who were on board the ill-fated flight. The media was barred from the briefing.Dai Shuqin, 62, whose younger sister’s family was on MH370, said the Chinese next of kin would not attend the briefing without the presence of the media. She told journalists this minutes after MAS China’s head of marketing Tracy Wang gave a short notification on the briefing.

Some family members also argued that there was a discrepancy between the announcements made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the French investigators. While Najib confirmed that the flaperon was from MH370, the French announcement was more nuanced, with officials saying investigators had “very strong suppositions” that the component was part of MH370.On Wednesday, Jiang Hui, whose mother was among the passengers, said he wanted to go to Reunion Island.

“I want to go there and see if I can find anything. The next of kin will be able to identify the belongings of the passengers,” Jiang said.“This is the place where I can feel connected to my loved one.”

The next of kin will also have another meeting with MAS here today, a scheduled bi-weekly meeting since the MH370 family assistance centre was closed in April. The relatives, who said they remained “disturbed” over the latest confirmation on the flaperon, had requested for the presence of “high level representatives” from Malaysia at the meeting.
